Archaeology Collections ServicesVisiting the collectionsIt is our responsibility to ensure that the City's archaeological collections are accessible to all. Anyone is welcome to browse through our database (either on-line or at the Museum), to examine the documentary records, or to view specific objects in our stores. All you need to do is contact the Curators of Archaeological Collections, Karen Wardley or Duncan Brown to make an appointment. Identification servicePeople are welcome to bring objects that they would like identified to the Museum of Archaeology, where the attendants will issue a receipt and retain the object for identification by the curators. You should normally receive a written reply within a month. Historic Sites Education ServiceHistoric Sites Education Service offers whole and half day education workshops in Tudor House Museum, Southampton Maritime Museum and the Museum of Archaeology. Workshops are directly linked to the National Curriculum History and Science Programmes of Study for Key Stages 1 and 2 as well as to Medieval Realms at Key Stage 3. Tour the storesThis is a summer activity, taking place from May to September. The Curators will take you behind the scenes and into the archaeology stores. The history and development of the collections is explained, the miles of shelving are open to view and there is an opportunity to see and handle some of the objects that we curate and to hear the stories behind them.
